As you’ve decided to have plastic surgery, you probably already have plenty of questions in your head that you’d like to ask your doctor. Many people feel intimidated at the prospect of asking a person of authority lots of questions. When it comes to the consultation, they shy away from making any inquiries and sit there quietly. Don’t be this person, ask as many questions as possible to put your mind at ease.
Are they board certified?
You’ve decided to have your surgery done in what looks like a reputable medical facility in a Bangkok clinic in soi 1. When you arrive for your consultation make sure you ask the doctor whether he or she is board certified. Most of the best cosmetic surgeons in Thailand are board certified by the US. This guarantees that they have completed extensive specialised training that shows their expert knowledge and experience in the field of cosmetic surgery.
How much experience do you have with this procedure?
This is another good question to ask your doctor, if they’ve lots of experience doing breast augmentation, but never done a rhinoplasty, you may be a bit concerned. No one wants to hear that their surgeon has never performed a nose job in their life. Although this rarely happens, it is better to find out about their background and what they specialise in.
What other staff will take part in the procedure?
Once you’re happy with your doctor, you should turn to their assistants. Don’t be afraid to ask about their qualifications, if they’ll be administering an anaesthesia, they should be well qualified to do so. If any of the staff are students learning their trade, you’ll want to know. Some of us don’t feel comfortable letting medical students touch them during a procedure, they should ask for your consent.
What are the risks?
As with any medical procedure there are some risks involved, cosmetic surgery is no different. If you book your procedure in a reputable clinic under a first-class surgeon the risk of something happening will be almost zero. Recent advancements in technology continue to make complications during cosmetic surgery more and more unlikely.
Can I see some of your work?
While in the consultation, ask to see some of your surgeon’s work. They should have plenty of before and after pictures gathered from previous clients. A good doctor will be able to use similar patients as an example of how your surgery will turn out. Some cosmetic surgeons use stock photos on their websites, so you don’t get to see the real deal. Make sure all the pictures you see are of patients your surgeon has previously worked on.
You should always be prepared when going for a rhinoplasty or breast augmentation, the more you know about the procedure and the clinic the easier it will be. Create a list of questions you’d like answered during the consultation, a good doctor will have no problems helping you with all your queries.
